What is SNR?

If HSSW has determined that a cat in their facility is feral – meaning it has never had or has had very limited socialization with humans and would not be happy living indoors in a traditional home setting, after undergoing our Behavior Assessment, that animal will be SNR’d. As part of HSSW’s Spay-Neuter-Release (SNR) program, this cat will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and ear-tipped (the universal symbol of an altered and vaccinated cat) and then returned within a mile radius of where that animal was found. SNR is beneficial to the cat and the neighborhood it came from. Once the cat is back in their outdoor home, they will no longer reproduce – which means a reduction in the overpopulation problem we battle. The cat staying in the neighborhood also ensures that another cat (that is potentially unaltered) won’t come in and take this cat’s spot. This cat is now a better neighbor! Studies confirm that once altered, mating behaviors such as yowling and fighting stop. SNR not only improves the lives of community cats, but yours too! SNR is effective and humane.
