FAQ

Will I have training before I start volunteering?

Yes, after attending new volunteer orientation everyone must sign up for training. Each role has training sessions that cover all aspects of the volunteer role. The time it takes to complete training varies based on trainer availability and training schedules.

How often do I need to volunteer?

We require volunteers to be able to serve at least four hours a month for the next 6 months. Volunteers are welcome to work more often if there is a need for shift coverage, either in a regularly scheduled shift, or by picking up open shifts online.

Is there an age requirement?

For the safety of our volunteers and animals, we require that all volunteers be at least 16 years of age to volunteer alone. Junior volunteers between the ages of 8 and 15 years old and younger may come with a trained adult (18 years old or older) volunteer.

Why do you ask for a 6 month commitment?

In order to provide the animals in our facilities the best care and support, we do require volunteers to commit to at least 6 months of volunteering. This requirement helps us ensure quality training and consistent volunteer coverage. We do allow for vacations, needed days off, and are willing to work with our volunteers on this requirement.

I have a group that is interested in volunteering at your facility. What do you have available for group volunteering?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate groups of volunteers except on special projects like spring ground cleanup or painting projects. Groups can support the animals in our care by making toys, collecting and donating items from our wish list or holding a fundraiser.

I don’t have a computer or email, can I still volunteer?

We require that all volunteers have regular online access and a current email address. Communication between staff and volunteers is extremely important and the majority of this happens online. We also require volunteers to sign up for shifts in advance online.

Do you accept court-ordered community service hours?

We accept school and court-ordered community service hours according to staff availability to train and need. We require at least 20 hours for community service volunteers. If you’re looking for school credit or court ordered community service, you can email bstott@petsgohome.org to ask if we are accepting requests at that time.

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
Thank you for considering giving your time and talents to help lost and homeless pets! Volunteers provide our animals with care and compassion and also help save our organization time and money so we can redirect those resources to helping more pets! We’re grateful!

Volunteer requirements:

  1. Animal volunteer positions require a minimum commitment of four hours a month for at least 6 months.
  2. Non-animal volunteer opportunities are as needed and may include office, special events, fostering, etc.
  3. Must be over the age of 16 or with a trained adult volunteer over the age of 18 if between the ages of 8 and 15 years old. For safety reasons, volunteers under 16 years of age never work alone with the animals.
  4. A valid email address and online access are required for all volunteer positions.

To apply:

  4. Follow the instructions at the end of your online orientation to sign up for position-specific training.
The process:
  1. Once you submit your application, an automatic response email will be sent inviting you to complete an online volunteer orientation.
  2. At an orientation, you’ll learn more about our programs and policies, catch a glimpse of our fun, nurturing culture, and become familiar with all the information you need to successfully contribute to our mission.
  3. You will then sign up for training in whatever volunteer area you chose! You can, and are encouraged, to get trained in more than one area.

We look forward to you joining us, and thank you for the gift of YOU!
