Basics Co-Op Round Up
October 6th | 10am-12pm | Basics Co-Op
Our friends at the Basics Co-Op have selected us for the Round Up Recipient for October! This means that all month long when you shop at Basics, you will have the option to round-up your total to the nearest dollar and your change will be donated to HSSW. Plus, we’ll be out at Basics on October 6th from 10am-12pm (weather permitting) with an adoptable dog to tell you all about HSSW and our mission to help pets go home again!

Pucks & Paws
October 10th | 6pm | Woodman’s Center
Join us for a Janesville Jets game with a four-legged twist! We’ll be out at the game selling 50/50 raffle tickets, cracking open cold ones in the arena, and collecting donations from wish list too! All 50/50 raffle proceeds & tips from the mobile beverage stand will come back to HSSW to support our mission of helping pets go home again. AND we’ll have at least one furry friend waiting to meet you! Doors open at 6pm and the puck drops at 7:05pm – see you there!

Hedberg Library Outreach Event
October 14th | 9:30am-11:30am | Hedberg Library
Join us out at the Hedberg Library to learn more about HSSW and meet some of our adoptable animals! Volunteers will be on-site to answer all your questions.

Mutts & Martinis
October 15th | 5:30pm-9pm | The Stack
Join us at The Stack for delicious food, specialty martinis, silent and live auctions, and more! You will spend the evening sipping specialty martinis, socializing, and making memories while supporting HSSW’s mission to help pets go home.
During cocktail and networking time, you can place your bids at our Silent Auction, take your chances at our Wine Pull, and visit with adoptable HSSW dogs. Each table will have a charcuterie board centerpiece to snack on throughout the event and dinner will follow these activities.
Soda will be available complementary at the bar. All other drinks will be available for purchase. Please note that The Stack is CASHLESS, so be sure to bring your credit/debit card along for the evening.
During dinner, you can enjoy a presentation by our Executive Director about all that HSSW has been up to in 2026. After dinner, you can indulge in dessert while you place your final bids in our Silent Auction and get ready to check out some HSSW animal-made art!
The night will close with our Live Auction of HSSW animal-made art. Before bidding begins, we’ll present videos and photos documenting the making of the masterpieces. All of which are sure to make you go “Awwwww” and inspire you to add some new artwork to your living room! Tickets are no longer available, but you can still get in on the fun by bidding in our Online Auction!

Flow for Furbabies
October 17th | 9:30am-10:30am | HSSW
Join HSSW for a morning yoga practice lead by Lifestyle Focus Fitness! Ages 10+ are welcome to join. It is preferred that you bring your own yoga mat with you, but we will have a few to borrow if needed. This event runs from 9:30am-10:30am at HSSW. There are only 12 spots available, so don’t wait to sign up! You can sign up HERE. Plus, the cost is only $25 with $10 coming back to HSSW as a donation!

Riverside Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat
October 17th | 10am-12pm | Riverside Park – Janesville
Our friends at the Janesville Parks & Recreation department invited us to join in on the Halloween fun at their annual Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat! We’ll be out there with our Cuddle Shuttle all decorated, candy to pass out, and an adoptable dog to say hi to. See you there!

National Make A Dog’s Day Adoption Event
October 22nd – 23rd | 12pm-7pm | HSSW
National Make A Dog’s Day is on October 22nd and we can’t think of a better way to make a dog’s day than giving them a home. That’s why we’re putting on an adoption event on Thursday AND Friday (10/22 and 10/23)!
For this event, you will receive 10-50% off of your adoption fee when you bring in an item from our Wish List. The percentage off of your adoption fee that you receive will depend on the item(s) from our Wish List that you bring in – more details to come!
Adopters must still follow all normal adoption processes to adopt a pet and pay for any additional required purchases, such as a City of Janesville License, a cat carrier, a leash/collar, etc. Pets at off-site locations (like Petco) are not included as a part of this event. Additionally, pets in our Adoption Guaranteed Program are also not included in this event.

Pups & Pilates

Get ready for the cutest workout around! Join us at Get Fit 45 for a day of Pilates, puppy snuggles, & good vibes – open to everyone. Come stretch, smile, and maybe meet your new best friend!

Lick or Treat
October 25th | 12pm-3pm | HSSW Rear Parking Lot
Join us for a spooky day of kid and dog-friendly fun! This event is FREE, but if you’d like to donate, we suggest a $5 donation. Start your Halloween afternoon with some trunk-or-treat style trick-or-treating around the shelter’s parking lot. HSSW staff, volunteers, and fellow community members will have their trunks decorated for the holiday and treats will be available for children and canines alike! Costumes welcome and encouraged! And don’t forget to stop by our Spooky Snacks and Raffle Basket table!

Halloween Adoption Event
October 29th – November 1st | Regular Adoption Hours | HSSW
What colors do you think of when you think of Halloween? Black and orange? Us too! That’s why we’re putting on an adoption event for all of our black, orange, or black AND orange adoptable pets!
Starting on Thursday, October 29th and going through Sunday, November 1st, we’re lowering the adoption fees for all of our black and/or orange adoptable pets! Specifically, we will be lowering our adoption fees for our black or orange cats to $31, our black or orange dogs to $131, our black AND orange cats to $13 and our black AND orange dogs to $113.
Adopters must still follow all normal adoption processes to adopt a pet and pay for any additional required purchases, such as a City of Janesville License, a cat carrier, a leash/collar, etc. Pets at off-site locations (like Petco) are not included as a part of this event. Additionally, pets in our Adoption Guaranteed Program are also not included in this event.
