Executive Director

Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin is seeking a dynamic leader with a compassion for animals and people to manage its growing animal shelter that serves 4,000 pets per year, while playing an instrumental part in a capital campaign for a new building. Serving as the chief operating and financial officer of the organization, you will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of 35 employees, 250 volunteers and 115 foster homes, the coordination of all programs and services, development and fundraising, administrative operations, community relations, board relations and financial management (current annual budget is $1.2M). Ideal candidate will have:

  • an entrepreneurial spirit
  • deep commitment to the humane treatment and compassionate care of animals
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent management
  • financial and administrative experience
  • strong management/leadership experience
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking
  • marketing background and experience with fundraising and development
  • prudent financial management and budgeting skills
  • visionary and strategic thinking skills
  • an ability to create a culture that provides a customer and community-focused experience

Adoption Counselor
Part-time or full-time/Hourly ($9.00/per hour)

We are looking for a friendly and outgoing individual to fill our part-time Adoption Counselor position. Our Adoption Counselors are the front line of our shelter and work closely with the public. This position conducts adoptions, deals compassionately with lost and found pets and provides excellent customer service at every opportunity. Our counselors are also responsible for providing counseling and education to the public, coordinating adoptions, handling computer records, processing paperwork,  greeting and directing customers, answering phones, and assisting in the care of all of our animals.

Animal Care Staff
Part-time or full-time/Hourly

Are you seeking a part time job working helping lost and homeless dogs and cats get well and go home again? The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, located in Janesville, is seeking applicants for Animal Care Staff. These part time positions are responsible for enclosure cleaning, dog walking, animal intake and administering medication to pets as directed by our Animal Care Manager. We are looking for positive, responsible and detail oriented people who are interested in helping to make a difference every day in the lives of thousands of lost and homeless pets. This is a part time position planned for approximately 20 hours per week. Experience with animal handling and care very beneficial.

Health Services Technician
Part-time or full-time/Hourly

Are you looking to work in the veterinary field, directly improve the lives of thousands of homeless animals, and enjoy a fast-paced work environment? The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin is seeking both full-time and part-time applicants for the veterinary and surgery teams. The team members will assist the veterinarian and veterinary technicians in surgery, medical exams, lab testing, and patient care. Applicants would also be responsible for medically triaging new strays, administering vaccinations and preventatives, and reuniting lost pets with owners. Click here for a full job description.
