JANESVILLE, WI – Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin Board President Sandy Bennett and Executive Director Jim McMullen, along with McKnight Excavating, Corporate Contractors, Inc., Angus-Young Associates, and honored guests will begin construction of the shelter’s new building with a groundbreaking ceremony to take place on Monday, July 12th, 2021 at 10:00 AM. This event is rain or shine. A generous estate donation allowed HSSW to purchase a beautiful 44-acre parcel between Janesville and Beloit on Hwy G. This open space with a wooded area, meadows, and stream provides the perfect setting for pets and community members alike and will be the animal shelter’s new home after 110 years at their current property located on South Arch Street in Janesville. Representatives from local municipalities and key community leaders are invited to take part in the ceremony as well as tour the property and view renderings of the new building. “I am so excited to work with our board of directors, donors, contractors, engineers and staff to make our new building project a reality for the HSSW,” states McMullen. “This project started before I joined the organization, and I am honored and proud to see it pass the finish line. Rock County residents and municipalities will love our new facility and together we will help pets go home again!” The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin’s new building will be ‘right sized’ to allow the shelter to efficiently provide outstanding care for all pets and expand programs and services offered to the community. Recently, HSSW was graciously awarded a grant from The Hendricks Family Foundation that provides matching opportunities by the foundation, for any donation of $100,000 or more, up to $1 million.
