The need is clear. The current 9,000 square foot facility was built in 1976. Surgery and clinic operations are currently conducted in a retrofitted box truck parked behind the building. Staff desks are in closets, a garage and every available space. The HVAC system needs total replacement. Kennel rooms are poorly designed with no direct outside access. Space is generally inefficient and cramped. The facility is inconveniently located to serve the entire Rock County area.

Each year we become more efficient in what we do, but this can only go so far in the current facility. It is now time to go to the next level with a new facility that will support our mission's success; not hold it back. We have developed a healthy and highly functional design for an expanded humane adoption center that will incorporate a number of critical design considerations that will allow us to be even more successful, more efficient and more cost-effective. A needs analysis revealed that the Humane Society requires a larger campus that is “right-sized” for our needs if we are to efficiently and effectively serve our current and future demand for services.

A generous estate donation allowed us to acquire a 44-acre parcel between Janesville and Beloit which offers us a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a 21st century campus that will serve our needs now and long into the future. The beautiful prairie setting is located halfway between Janesville and Beloit, on Prairie Street (County Highway G) just south of the Dollar General Distribution Center and about a mile north of Blackhawk Technical College, in the Town of Rock. This is an open, natural area that includes a wooded area, open meadows, and a stream – the perfect place for pets and any members of the community who want to take advantage of it.
